This morning we continue of summer series on faith from Hebrews 11-12 entitled Great Cloud of Witnesses. In Hebrews 11:7, the Bible records the testimony of Noah with these words, “By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.” The NIV rendering translates the clause “in reverence” as “in holy fear.” This morning we will take inventory of our “Fear Factor” toward God. In Noah’s testimony of faith, there is a progression of sorts that God delights to see in people of faith. It is toward this progression that we will fix our attention this morning in a sermon I have entitled Noah: A Holy Fear of God.
Today marks an exciting yet somewhat oxymoronic day in the life of our church. Is is a great blessing to serve a people who appreciate and love the staff that God assembles to serve the body. Today I am excited for Adam Harwood and their family as they embark upon a new chapter in their service to God and His kingdom. I am both happy and a bit sad at the same time. Adam has been an invaluable friend to me personally and I regret that our days together in service inevitably transition as he continues the race that God has laid before him. I hope that you will make a point to come and extend to his family your personal well wishes and appreciation for their faithful service to our fellowship. There is a come-and-go reception this afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 in the fellowship hall.
This coming Wednesday night, July 1st, we are going to have a great time at Tate Springs Freedom Fest. A free meal will be served from 5:00-6:00 in our fellowship hall, Americana games beginning at 5:45 and a patriotic musical by our choir and orchestra beginning at 7:00 in the worship center. There will be a homemade ice cream contest, cake walk, sack races, and an assortment of things for the whole family. Invite a friend and let’s celebrate this great freedom we are blessed to enjoy.
